Birmingham Community Healthcare

As a Community Healthcare Trust, BCHC delivers services in a wide range of clinical and other locations across Birmingham and beyond, from GP surgeries, clinics and health centres, to prisons and schools.

The Trust also hosts services at four larger sites: Birmingham Dental Hospital; Moseley Hall Hospital; West Heath Hospital; and the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre.

BCHC’s team of 5,000 staff deliver more than 100 different NHS services for people of all ages – from birth through childhood and adult life to older years. Its vision is to provide the best care possible to support the people who use its services, many of whom are among the most vulnerable in our society, to live well in health communities. To achieve this, BCHC closely collaborates with a range of partner organisations – taking a system-wide approach to health and social care – to ensure everyone has equitable access to NHS services, has a positive experience of care, and can achieve good health outcomes.

Equity of opportunity also includes the people who work at BCHC, ensuring that everyone is able to reach their full potential, with no barriers to their career progression.

Community Connexions

Community Connexions is a patient and public engagement programme aimed at understanding the lived experiences of local communities in Birmingham and the Black Country regarding their health and access to healthcare services. This helps to inform future health research, adapt our services to better meet local needs, and tackle prevailing health inequalities across these regions. Learn more about Community Connexions.

Dental and oral health

Dental research takes place at BCHC’s Birmingham Dental Hospital in collaboration with the University of Birmingham’s School of Dentistry. As well as pioneering new diagnostics and treatments for oral cancer and infectious and inflammatory diseases, innovations developed at the Dental Hospital have health impact far beyond dental issues, including in diabetes and heart disease.
